Woman Dies in Highway 101 Pedestrian Crash in Santa Clara Early Wednesday
Santa Clara, California (May 6, 2020) – A woman was hit and killed by a car Wednesday at about 4:19 a.m. when she was reportedly trying to cross Highway 101 near San Tomas Expressway in Santa Clara, a local news source reported.
As per the article, the woman reportedly stepped into traffic in the northbound lanes of the highway from the right shoulder.
An approaching driver slammed on the brakes after spotting the woman but was not able to stop in time and ended up hitting the pedestrian.
The victim died at the crash scene. Her identity remains undisclosed.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
