Catalina Esteves Killed in Moreno Valley DUI Car Crash on Gilman Springs, Jose Perez Arrested

Girl Killed in Moreno Valley DUI Car Accident on Gilman Springs ID’d as Catalina Esteves

Moreno Valley, California (May 6, 2020)17-year-old Catalina Esteves, of Calimesa, has been identified as the girl who died following an alleged DUI hit-and-run traffic collision in Moreno Valley Monday morning, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office reported.

As per the California Highway Patrol report, a1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by18-year-old Jose Angel Perez, east on Gilman Springs Road, collided with another vehicle just about 11:00 a.m. May 4.

Due to the impact, the Tahoe overturned several times. Esteves and another passenger riding in the Chevrolet were ejected in the process.

Perez didn’t stop after the mishap and fled the scene.

Esteves was rushed to Riverside University Health System Medical Center, where she later died at approximately 11:53 a.m.

The second unidentified victim was hospitalized with unspecified injuries sustained the wreck.

Perez, who was suspected of having been driving while intoxicated, suffered minor injuries. Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of DUI and will be booked when he recovers.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
