Authorities Identify Victim Hit and Killed by SamTrans Bus on El Camino Real at James Avenue in Redwood City

Redwood City, California (December 15, 2019) – The San Mateo County coroner’s office has identified the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a SamTrans bus Thursday morning in Redwood City as Theodora Karakouda, 84, of Watertown, Massachusetts.

The fatal pedestrian accident happened at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, December 12 on El Camino Real at James Avenue.

Authorities said the bus was heading southbound on El Camino Real when for an unknown reason, it struck Karakouda at the corner of the intersection.

Karakouda died as a result of the crash.

None of the four passengers on board the bus was hurt.

El Camino Real was shut down for nearly three hours while the investigation took place.
