Porterville Hit-and-Run Accident Crash on Olive Avenue and Highway 65 Injured Police Officer

Porterville, California (February 26, 2020) – A police officer was hurt in an alleged hit-and-run car crash that took place in the area of Porterville shortly before 9:30 p.m. February 22.

According to a local news source, the two-vehicle crash was reported on Saturday night in the area of Olive Avenue and Highway 65.

The accident involved a car driven by a Porterville Police officer east near Olive Avenue and a 2000 Honda Accord operated by 32-year-old Jorge Salas west on Olive. Salas reportedly made an unsafe left turn and collided with the patrol vehicle.

Detectives said Salas did not stop after the wreck and escaped southbound on Highway 65

The unidentified officer sustained minor injuries in the crash and declined first aid treatment at the scene.

Salas was later located at his home near South Western Avenue, and the Honda abandoned in the parking lot of Lowe’s. He was arrested by Officers and booked into Tulare County Sheriff’s Department South County Detention Facility with a bail set at $70,000
