Pedro Pelayo ID’d as Driver Killed in Fontana Truck Accident at Cherry and Whittram Avenues
Fontana, California (February 11, 2020) – Pedro Pelayo, 34, of Fontana, has been identified as the driver who was died in a two-vehicle accident on Friday evening that also left one person injured in Fontana, according to police.
Police responded to the intersection of Cherry and Whittram avenues after reports of a two-vehicle crash that happened at about 5:06 p.m. February 7.
Authorities said a Burrtec Waste garbage truck collided with a white Chevy Silverado pickup at the Fontana intesection. Due to the impact, the truck veered off to the right crashed into a traffic light pole.
The CHP said one of the involved motorists failed to stop for a red traffic light and triggered the crash.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and freed Pelayo who was trapped in his truck. He was then transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.
A 48-year-old Fontana man, who was the driver of the Chevy, was also transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
An investigation is underway.
