Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Hit by Vehicle on 21st Street in National City

Woman Suffers Major Injuries in National City Pedestrian Accident on 21st Street and Highland Avenue

National City, California (February 11, 2020) – According to a local news report, a pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in the area of 21st Street and Highland Avenue in National City.

Authorities responded to the intersection of 21st Street and Highland Avenue after reports of a pedestrian accident that happened at around 12:20 p.m. Monday, February 10.

A 2019 Toyota pickup was turning from 21st Street onto Highland Avenue when, for an unknown reason, it hit the pedestrian who was walking in a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian, only identified as a 49-year-old woman, was transported to a trauma center with major but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said a 29-year-old man driving the pickup was reportedly distracted when he struck the woman. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
