Pedestrian Killed in DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Hillcrest Road in Hollister
20-Year-Old Woman Killed in Hollister Pedestrian Accident on Hillcrest Road; Matthew Echevarria Arrested
Hollister, California (December 27, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed Monday evening in an alleged DUI hit-and-run accident in Hollister, a local news source reported.
The deadly crash occurred at around 5:37 p.m. Monday, December 23 in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Road.
According to the local news report, the pedestrian, only identified as a 20-year-old woman, was struck by a van on Hillcrest Road.
Medical personnel responded to the scene and declared the woman dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The van driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. The suspected, identified as Matthew Echevarria, 31, of Hollister, was later arrested by authorities.
Authorities believed that Echevarria was driving under the influence of a controlled substance when the accident happened.
Echevarria was booked into the San Benito County on charges of hit and run from an injury collision, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury. Echevarria may also face charges of driving with a suspended license.
