Pedestrian Dies After Getting Hit by Several Vehicles on I-5 in San Diego
Pedestrian Killed in Interstate 5 Crash near Cesar E Chavez Parkway in San Diego
San Diego, California (March 17, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a traffic accident that killed a pedestrian late Sunday night in San Diego.
The pedestrian, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just north of Cesar E Chavez Parkway when, for unknown reasons, the person was hit by a vehicle shortly before 11:00 p.m. on March 15.
The pedestrian was then struck by several other vehicles, the California Highway Patrol said. The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the accident.
Interstate 5 between Cesar Chavez Parkway and Logan Avenue was shut down following the crash.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
