Cole Roberts Hospitalized after Deadly Kern County Car Crash on Highway 33 near Barker Road
Kern County, California (March 16, 2020) – Cole Roberts, 20, of Paso Robles, has been identified as the person who was seriously injured in a fatal head-on car crash on Sunday night in Kern County, according to police.
The deadly crash occurred at about 9:40 p.m., on March 15, on Highway 33 near Barker Road just south of the Kern-Kings County line.
The California Highway Patrol said Sebastian Alberto Martinez, 21, was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Highway 33 when, for unknown reasons, he drifted northbound into the pathway of a GMC. The two vehicles finally collided head-on.
Following the head-on crash, another vehicle traveling on the roadway was unable to avoid the wrecked Toyota and eventually struck it, according to the police.
Roberts, the GMC driver, was trapped in his car and Kern County firefighters freed him. He was transported to Kern Medical Center with significant injuries
Martinez was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
The other driver sustained minor injuries.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
