The pedestrian crash occurred at around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, February 18 on Highway 101 near Railroad Avenue exit.
Authorities said Marvin Ralda, 28, of San Rafael, was driving a gray Toyota Camry southbound on Highway 101 when he swerved around a roll of insulation that accidentally fell out of a truck, but went too far to the right and hit Esquivel.
According to the authorities, Esquivel was standing in the shoulder lane, waiting for a break in traffic to retrieve the insulation.
Esquivel sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
