Jonathan Balderas and David Tankersley Injured in Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Mendocino County

Jonathan Balderas and David Tankersley and 2 Others Injured in Mendocino County Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101

Mendocino County, California (February 21, 2020) – Police officers have identified two of the four drivers injured in a multiple vehicle accident on Thursday, February 20, at about 8:00 a.m. in Mendocino County, as Jonathan Balderas, 28, of Pittsburg, and David Tankersley, 35, of Santa Rosa.

Authorities said Tankersleywas driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on Highway 101 at approximately55 to 60 mph when for unknown reasons, he let the Ford veer to the left and cross over solid yellow lines and partially enter the southbound traffic lane.

The Ford then collided head-on with a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling southbound.

The Volkswagen then lost control and entered northbound lane where it again collided head-on with a 2016 Freightliner tow truck driven by Balderas.

A 2020 Ford Fusion struck the Volkswagen a third time.

The driver of the Volkswagen suffered major injuries in the crash while the driver of the Ford Fusion sustained moderate injuries. They were both taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Tankersley and Balderas suffered minor injuries, and they were treated at the scene

No other details of the crash were immediately released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
