Janice Tate ID’d as Victim Injured in Fatal Two-Car Crash on Highway 49 near Joeger Road in Auburn

Auburn, California (January 11, 2020) – The person who was injured Friday morning in a fatal crash involving two vehicles in Auburn has been identified as Janice Tate, 78.

The crash took place at around 8:15 a.m. Friday, January 10 on Highway 49, just north of Joeger Road and south of the Nevada County line.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord, driven by a 68-year-old Auburn woman, was pulling out of a private road when it turned left onto the highway and entered the pathway of a northbound KIA Sportage SUV that was going at 55-60 miles per hour.

The SUV then swerved to the right and slammed into the Honda on the left side. The SUV rolled over and landed onto its roof after the impact.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by emergency crews.  The Honda driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Tate, who was the driver of the SUV, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
