1 Killed, 1 Injured in Auburn Head-on Accident on Highway 49 at Joeger Road

Auburn, California (January 10, 2020) – A 68-year-old Auburn woman was killed and another injured in a head-on collision that happened in Auburn on Friday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place at about 8:15 a.m. January 10, on Grass Valley Highway (49) at Joeger Road just north of Elders Coroner in Placer County.

The accident began when a Honda Accord driven by the Auburn woman came out of a private road and turned left on to the highway. A KIA Sportage SUV operated by a 78-year-old motorist northbound at 55-60 mph swerved to the right to avoid the collision, but she struck the Honda on the left side.

Due to the impact, the SUV overturned and landed on its roof.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and extricated both drivers from their vehicles.

Both victims were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment.

The Honda driver was sadly pronounced deceased at the hospital while the SUV operator sustained minor injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected factors in the accident. An investigation into the crash is underway.
