Fatal Rialto Truck Crash Victim Identified as Carlos Montes

Carlos Montes, of San Bernardino, Killed in Rialto Crash on Riverside Avenue

Rialto, California (May 15, 2020) – The Rialto Police Department is investigating a fatal truck collision that happened Tuesday at about 6:20 p.m. in Rialto, killing a San Bernardino man.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the deceased was 28-year-old Carlos Montes.

An initial investigation revealed that Montes was behind the wheel of a Nissan Frontier pickup truck heading south on Riverside Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Montes weaved in and out of lanes while approaching the intersection of Agua Mansa Road.

Police said as Montes continued towards the intersection, a Kenworth tractor pulling a trailer exited the south driveway in the 3600 block of S. Riverside Avenue.

Montes continued south on Riverside when the tractor crossed over the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes.

Authorities said Montes applied brakes, and his truck began to skid. The truck crashed into the left-rear side of the tractor trailer.

Montes sustained fatal injuries in the crash. First responders found him in the driver’s seat of the pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
