Driver Killed in Santa Clarita Car Accident on Highway 14 Identified
Santiago Cabezas Jr Killed in Santa Clarita Crash on Highway 14 near Sierra Highway
Santa Clarita, California (January 23, 2020) – Authorities have identified the driver who was killed early Thursday morning in a traffic crash on Highway 14 in Santa Clarita.
Santiago Daniel Cabezas Jr., 19, of Santa Ana, died in the accident that occurred at about 1:04 a.m. on the southbound Highway 14, just north of Sierra Highway.
Authorities said a white Honda Civic, driven by Cabezas, was heading southbound on Highway 14, approaching Sierra Highway at a high rate of speed when for an unknown reason, the Honda rear-ended a red Volvo truck that was parked on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the truck ramp.
Cabezas died at the scene. The Volvo driver was uninjured.
The crash caused the closure of one of two southbound truck route lanes of the 14 Freeway for around four hours. The roadway was reopened at about 5:54 a.m.
Police suspect drugs, alcohol, and excessive speed to have played a role in the collision.
