Placerville, California (March 17, 2020) – Authorities have identified Don J. Dedinas, 52, of Foothill Farms, as the pedestrian who died earlier this month after being hit by a vehicle in Placerville.
The crash occurred at around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 on Missouri Flat Road near Perks Court, just south of Highway 50.
Maria Caceres, 73, of Pollock Pines, was traveling northbound on Missouri Flat in a 2007 Mitsubishi Raider and was about to merge onto the eastbound Highway 50 onramp when he struck Dedinas who was possibly rolling a car tire in a traffic lane of the roadway.
Dedinas died at the scene.
Caceres remained at the scene and was cooperative. Authorities determined that Caceres was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
Further details about the accident were not immediately provided.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
