Caltrans Worker, Two Injured in 2-Car Accident on State Route 78 near Nordahl Road in San Marcos

San Marcos, California (February 4, 2020) – A Caltrans worker and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 78 in San Marcos Tuesday afternoon, a local news source reported.

The wreck happened on the shoulder of State Route 78 at Nordahl Road at about 1:50 p.m.

According to the local news report, the Caltrans worker, a 61-year-old Santee man, was seated in his pickup truck parked on the eastbound shoulder of the highway underneath the Nordahl Road overpass when a Jeep SUV crashed into the back of the pickup truck.

The Caltrans employee sustained a head injury and was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

The driver of the Jeep, a 41-year-old Carlsbad man, suffered cuts and bruising to the right side of his face and right eye. His passenger, a 34-year-old Carlsbad woman, was transported to Palomar Medical Center with major to moderate head injuries.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
