Authorities Identify 3 Boys Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Temescal Valley

Daniel Hawkins, Drake Ruiz and Jacob Ivascu Killed in Temescal Valley Car Crash at Temescal Canyon Road and Trilogy Parkway

Temescal Valley, California (January 21, 2019) – The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau has identified three teenage boys who were killed late Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash in Temescal Valley as Daniel Hawkins, 16, Drake Ruiz, 16, both of Corona and Jacob Ivascu, 16, Riverside.

The fatal accident took place at around 10:28 p.m. Sunday, January 19 in the area of Temescal Canyon Road and Trilogy Parkway.

According to the authorities, a 2019 Infiniti Q50, driven by Anurag Chandra, 42, of Corona, was traveling in the area when he slammed into a 2002 Toyota Prius that was carrying six teenage boys.  Due to the impact, the Prius veered off the road and hit a tree.

Police believed that Chandra purposely struck the Prius.

Three boys were trapped inside the wrecked vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. One victim died at the scene and two others were transported at a hospital, where there they later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Prius and the other two victims were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chandra did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. A witness followed the suspect’s car after the collision and alerted the authorities. The car was parked outside a nearby home with front-end damage.

Chandra was later arrested on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

Temescal Canyon Road was closed between Trilogy Parkway and Squaw Mountain Road following the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
