Amber Leist ID’d as Off-Duty L.A. County Sheriff’s Detective Killed in Valley Village Pedestrian Accident at Riverside Drive and Whitsett Avenue

Valley Village, California (January 13, 2020) – Authorities have identified the off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detective who was hit and killed by a vehicle Sunday morning in Valley Village.

Detective Amber Joy Leist, 41, a 12-year veteran of the department assigned to the West Hollywood Station, died in the accident that occurred at about 11:05 a.m. Sunday, January 12 at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Whitsett Avenue.

According to the authorities, two pedestrians were crossing the street inside a crosswalk when one of them, a senior citizen, fell to the ground. Leist, who was driving through the area at the time, stopped and exited her vehicle to help the pedestrian get safely to the sidewalk.

As Leist was returning to her vehicle, she was hit by a car that was heading eastbound on Riverside Drive.

Leist was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver involved stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
