4 Juveniles Hospitalized after Car Accident on Highway 178 in Bakersfield

4 Teens Seriously Injured in Bakersfield Car Crash on Highway 178 near Union Avenue

Bakersfield, California (January 21, 2020) – Four juveniles were hospitalized Monday morning after a two-vehicle crash in Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck occurred on Monday, January 20 on Highway 178, just west of Union Avenue.

According to the CHP, a Honda sedan was attempting to make a lane change on Highway 178 when for an unknown reason, it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt that was heading westbound.

As a result of the crash, the Chevrolet veered off the roadway into an embankment and crashed into a tree.

All four teens in the Chevrolet were transported to Kern Medical Hospital with serious injuries. One teenage girl was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the CHP report states.

The driver of the Honda did not stop and fled the scene.

Further details about the crash were not immediately disclosed.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
