Elderly Man Killed in Chico Car Accident on Meridian Road near Kilkare Lane

Chico, California (April 27, 2020) – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of an elderly man Sunday morning in Chico, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the accident at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 26 on Meridian Road, just north of Kilkare Lane.

The California Highway Patrol said an 80-year-old man was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Meridian Road when he attempted to overtake a 2020 Toyota Tundra.

The 80-year-old man rear-ended the Toyota Tundra as he was trying to pass, according to the CHP. The Chevrolet overturn after the impact.

The 80-year-old man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

It remains unknown if intoxication played a role in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
