Woman Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on East Plaza Boulevard in National City

Woman Killed in National City Pedestrian Crash on East Plaza Boulevard at Euclid Avenue

National City, California (February 25, 2020) – A woman believed to be her 80s died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in National City, authorities said.

The National City woman was walking across East Plaza Boulevard near Euclid Avenue at about 5:45 a.m. when a westbound vehicle struck her.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

A 36-year-old man, who was the driver of the involved vehicle, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

The westbound lanes were closed between Euclid and Harbison avenues for approximately two hours while the authorities investigated the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
