Aurelio Castaneda Arrested After Hit-and-Run Accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, California (January 6, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim who was seriously injured in an alleged fatal hit-and-run collision in Bakersfield Friday night as 20-year-old Adonis Malik Jones.
The deadly collision happened on Friday, January 3, along Highway 99.
As per the report, a truck driven by 58-year-old Aurelio Castaneda of Tulare on the highway was struck from the back by a 2007 Hyundai driven by an 18-year-old man for undisclosed reasons.
The initial report indicated that the Hyundai was hit by a third vehicle that was heading northbound on Highway 99.
Jones was riding as a second passenger in the Hyundai at the time of the collision. Officials affirmed Jones sustained major injuries and was taken to a local hospital for medication.
The Hyundai motorist and his passenger, 24, were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the third vehicle, who was only identified as a female party, suffered minor injuries in the wreck.
Castaneda did not stop after the accident and fled the scene. Police later arrested Castaneda on suspicion of hit-and-run.
The fatal crash remains under an active investigation.
