Lateishia Atkinson Struck and Killed by Vehicle on 15 Freeway near Nipton Road in Mountain Pass

Mountain Pass, California (April 20, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol has released the name of the Las Vegas female resident who was struck and killed by a vehicle on 15 Freeway, near Nipton Road in Mountain Pass Friday night, April 17.

The accident began when a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Lateishia Atkinson became disabled on the right shoulder of the highway. Atkinson then walked into the southbound lanes where she was hit by an SUV in the no. 2 lane at around 8:22 p.m.

The SUV operator stopped after the wreck and cooperated with the law.

Sadly, Atkinson died in the accident at about 9:03 p.m.

The accident remains under an active investigation.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
