Velton Johnson Killed in Crash on East 7th Street in Long Beach

Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Two Vehicles on East 7th Street and Ultimo Avenue in Long Beach Identified as Velton Johnson

Long Beach, California (March 20, 2020) – Authorities have identified Velton Jermaine Johnson, 37, of Long Beach, as the pedestrian who died after being struck by two vehicles at an intersection in Long Beach Monday night.

Police said Johnson man was walking across East 7th Street and Ultimo Avenue when a vehicle traveling westbound on 7th Street, struck him just after 10:00 p.m. March 16. That vehicle fled the scene after the accident.

Due to the impact, Johnson was ejected into the eastbound lanes, where he was also struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 61-year-old Long Beach woman.

Johnson was found lying on the roadway by emergency responders. He was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. According to the authorities, alcohol, drugs or distracted driving were not considered factors on her part.

There was no description of the vehicle that fled the scene. Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail Detective S. Fox asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 562-570-7355.
