1 Critically Injured in Highway 1 Car Collision in Orcutt
Orcutt, California (December 28, 2019) – Three people were injured when two sedans collided late Friday night on a highway in Orcutt, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The alleged wrong-way collision occurred just before midnight on southbound Highway 1, two miles north of Graciosa Road.
Authorities said a black BMW was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and crashed into a red sedan.
One person was trapped in one of the vehicles. Santa Barbara County fire officials responded to the scene and extricated the person. The victim sustained critical injuries and was transported by an AMR ambulance to Santa Maria Airport from where a Calstar medical helicopter airlifted them to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Paramedics said two other people suffered minor injuries, and one of them was hospitalized at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
The vehicles were blocking the southbound lanes.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
