Tapelu Tapelu Killed in Morgan Hill Car Accident on Condit Road near East Dunne Avenue

Morgan Hill, California (February 5, 2020) – Police have identified the man who died in a traffic accident that happened Sunday night in Morgan Hill as Tapelu Tapelu, 39, of Hayward.

The crash, which was reported at around 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, happened on Condit Road, just north of East Dunne Avenue.

Police said a Nissan Altima, driven by Tapelu, was heading southbound on Condit Road when the Altima veered into a northbound lane around a bend and collided head-on with an oncoming Audi driven by a 49-year-old Morgan Hill woman.

The woman was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be freed by fire crews. She was then airlifted to a hospital with unspecified injuries. She remained in stable condition as of Tuesday.

Tapelu, who was not wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.

Authorities said alcohol played a role in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
