Pedestrian Struck, Severely Injured by Vehicle on Union Avenue in Bakersfield

Man Seriously Injured in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident on Union Avenue

Bakersfield, California (March 22, 2020) – A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield Saturday evening, authorities said.

The pedestrian accident happened at about 8:13 p.m. Saturday, March 21 in the 1600 block of Union Avenue.

An unidentified man was attempting to walk across Union Avenue when a vehicle hit him, according to the police.

Paramedics responded to the scene and performed CPR on the pedestrian. The victim was then transported to a hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

The driver did not stop to render aid to the pedestrian and fled the scene. The motorist later contacted the police.

The accident remains under investigation.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
