The accident took place a little after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10, on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Moraga Avenue.

As per the report, a 69-year-old woman was crossing from north to south on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard when she was hit by a 2000 Dodge Caravan that was traveling in the number 3 eastbound lane.

The woman sustained serious injuries that included a broken pelvis and a cut on her head. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Dodge, a 19-year-old man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the collision.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
