Pedestrian Killed After Getting Struck by Vehicle on Road 26 in Madera
55-Year-Old Susanville Woman Dies in Madera Pedestrian Accident on Road 26 near Haley Way
Madera, California (April 13, 2020) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in Madera Sunday night, according to California Highway Patrol.
On April 12, at about 10:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the scene of a deadly pedestrian accident on Road 26, just north of Haley Way.
According to the CHP, Jose David Zaragoza, 19, of Madera, was driving a Kia northbound on Road 26 at approximately 48 mph when he struck a 55-year-old Susanville woman, who was pushing the cart northbound across Road 26.
The woman was found dead on the roadway. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
The CHP said Zaragoza was not aware that he had hit the pedestrian and went home. He later returned to the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash. An investigation into the accident is underway.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
