San Diego, California (March 15, 2020) – A pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning in San Diego, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at the intersection of 17th Street and Imperial Avenue near 5 Freeway at around 1:34 a.m. Saturday, March 14.
The CHP said a vehicle drifted off the roadway, struck the pedestrian and then went through a fence.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
The vehicle was towed away from the scene of the crash.
Further details about the crash were not immediately provided, and the accident remains under investigation.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
