Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Amtrak Train in Santa Barbara
Man Killed in Santa Barbara Pedestrian Accident near Montecito Street
Santa Barbara, California (March 21, 2020) – An adult male pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Saturday morning in Santa Barbara, police said.
The man, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was on the railroad just north of Montecito Street when an Amtrak train traveling southbound struck him at about 7:00 a.m.
The man died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Train traffic was stopped for an unknown duration as the authorities investigated the cause of the accident.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
