Authorities Identify Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Vehicle on A Street near Third Street in Santa Rosa as Noah Stepanoff
Santa Rosa, California (February 21, 2020) – The Sonoma County Sheriff’s office has identified Noah Stepanoff, 45, of Santa Rosa, as the pedestrian who died Thursday night in a traffic accident in Santa Rosa.
Authorities responded to the A Street near the westbound off-ramp to Third Street near the Santa Rosa Plaza after they received a call at about 8:07 p.m. Thursday, February 20, from Alejandra Rangel Valencia of Petaluma, who said she had just hit a pedestrian.
Valencia told the officers that the pedestrian was pinned under the vehicle.
Police said Valencia was exiting the mall parking garage via an off-ramp to Third Street at A Street when, for an unknown reason, she hit Stepanoff.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and removed Stepanoff from under the vehicle, a burgundy Nissan Maxima. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Valencia stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drugs were not suspected to be factors in the accident.
It remains unclear why Stepanoff was on the road at the time of the crash.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the police at (707) 3636.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
