Man Killed, Woman Airlifted to Hospital after Sonoma DUI Crash at 8th Street and East Napa Road
Sonoma, California (January 27, 2020) – One person died, and another was seriously injured in a DUI car crash that happened Sunday afternoon in Sonoma, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash left a 35-year-old man dead and 34-year-old Natalie Weiss seriously injured. Abdulhadi Awad, 36, was also injured and arrested for driving while intoxicated.
According to CHP, Awad was driving southbound on 8th Street in a gray 2008 BMW when he ran a red light at East Napa Road and plowed into a Subaru driven by the 35-year-old man.
The crash happened at about 12:20 p.m.
Authorities said the driver of the Subaru died in the crash. His passenger, Weiss, sustained serious injuries. She was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center by a helicopter.
Awad suffered unspecified injuries and was also transported to the same hospital. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
At the time of the crash, two motorcyclists were waiting at the intersection. The riders were hit by debris from the collision but were not injured.
Authorities are investigating the collision.
