Michael Engel and Sandra Flores ID’d as 2 of 7 Injured in 2-Vehicle Accident on River Road On-Ramp to Highway 101 in Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa, California (May 1, 2020) – Two adults and five juveniles were injured Thursday morning in a traffic collision involving a truck and an SUV in Santa Rosa, according to a local news source.

The 9:45 a.m. accident happened on the southbound River Road exit to Highway 101, police said.

As per the report, Michael Engel, 20, of Santa Rosa, was driving a Goodwill box truck on the southbound River Road onramp when he drifted to the left into the middle lane to make room for another vehicle, which was entering the onramp.

Engel reportedly lost control of his truck and collided with a Ford Expedition driven by Sandra Garcia Flores, 30, of Windsor, who was traveling in the middle lane of the onramp.

Due to the impact, the two vehicles went off the road and ended up in the vegetation to the right of the highway.  The Expedition overturned.

Flores and her five juvenile passengers were injured as a result of the wreck. One of the children, a 10-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital. Two other children were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center in unknown condition.

Flores and the remaining two children were transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

Engel was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The River Road onramp to the highway was closed as a result of the crash.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the accident. An investigation into the crash is underway.
