Matteo Monica Injured in Fatal Temecula Crash on Highway 79 near Anza Road

Temecula, California (January 4, 2020) – 50-year-old Matteo Monica of San Diego has been identified as one of the two victims injured after a fatal collision early Friday morning in the area of Temecula, according to authorities.

The deadly collision happened at about 12:25 a.m. on Highway 79 near Anza Road.

As per the CHP officials, Monica was traveling eastbound on Highway 79 in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer and was trying to pass a slower car. The lancer then crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on into a westbound 2004 Kia Rio driven by 59-year-old Becki Teague of Aguanga.

The Mitsubishi caught fire following the collision.

Responding firefighters pronounced Pollete, a Kia front seat passenger, dead at the scene.

Teague sustained major injuries and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar where she was listed in a critical condition. Monica also suffered severe injuries and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation is ongoing.
