Man Killed in Imperial Beach Pedestrian Accident at Ninth Street and Ebony Avenue
Imperial Beach, California (January 11, 2019) – Authorities are investigating a fatal Imperial Beach pedestrian accident that claimed an elderly man’s life on Friday afternoon.
The deadly collision happened at about 12:10 p.m. Friday, at the intersection of Ninth Street and Ebony Avenue, a block north of Imperial Beach Boulevard.
The California Highway Patrol said a man believed to be about 70 to 75 years old was for unknown reasons hit and killed by an 84-year-old driver. The driver was traveling north on Ninth Street when her car hit the man at Ebony Avenue.
The man was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His name was not immediately released awaiting notification of next of kin.
It was reported that there was no crosswalk at the three-way T-intersection and no stop sign or traffic light at Ebony Avenue for drivers on Ninth Street.
Police confirmed that the involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials.
Authorities said the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Officials did not believe alcohol to have contributed to the crash.
