Kimberly Mondragon Injured in DUI Car Crash on Highway 49 near 5th Avenue in Sonora, John Birdsong Arrested

Victim Hurt in Sonora DUI Car Accident on Highway 49 near 5th Avenue ID’d as Kimberly Mondragon

Sonora, California (December 9, 2019) – 20-year-old Kimberly Mondragon of East Adelanto has been identified as one of the victims injured in an alleged DUI crash on Saturday evening in Sonora.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on December 7, on Highway 49, near 5th Avenue in Jamestown.

The accident involved a Nissan Pathfinder driven by 68-year-old John William Birdsong of La Grange southbound on the highway and a Chevrolet van driven by 27-year-old George Hernandez-Mejia of Pittsburg.

The initial report indicated that Birdsong was driving at an unsafe speed at the time of the accident.

Due to the impact, the Pathfinder was sent off the roadway and down an embankment.

Two of the six passengers of the van, including Mondragon, sustained minor injuries in the crash. The two victims were taken to Adventist Health Sonora by ground ambulance for medication.

Birdsong was also transported to Adventist Health Sonora for the treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

Birdsong was suspected of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the collision.

He was arrested and later booked into Tuolumne County Jail where he was charged for DUI.

The crash remain under an active investigation.
