Authorities Identify Victim in Deadly Car Crash at Fowler Avenue and American Avenue in Fresno as Karen Ward

Fresno, California (March 6, 2020) – Authorities have identified Karen Ward, 61, of Fresno, as the woman who was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Fresno.

The wreck happened in the area of Fowler Avenue and American Avenue at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5.

Authorities said a white Ford Fusion was heading southbound on Fowler Avenue when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and collided with a tractor-trailer that was traveling westbound on American Avenue.

The driver of the Fusion, Douglas Ward, 71, of Fresno, sustained major injuries and was transported Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Douglas’s wife, Karen Ward, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cantu stopped at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Investigators said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
