Juan Muniz III Struck, Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver Sunday Morning on North Coast Highway near Sportfisher Drive in Oceanside
Oceanside, California (January 30, 2020) – The County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a suspected drunken driver early Sunday morning in Oceanside as Juan Muniz III of Kingsville, Texas.
The fatal pedestrian accident took place at around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, January 26 on the North Coast Highway near Sportfisher Drive.
Authorities said Muniz was walking across Coast Highway when, for an unknown reason, he was hit by a vehicle that was heading northbound on North Coast.
Muniz was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was a Marine stationed in Camp Pendleton.
The driver of the vehicle involved, William Vaden, 31, was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a $2,500 bail for a misdemeanor DUI alcohol/drugs charge.
The accident remains under investigation.
