Joseph Mendivil Dies in San Bernardino Car Accident at Lynwood Drive and Mountain Avenue

Coroner Identify Driver Killed in DUI Crash at Lynwood Drive and Mountain Avenue in San Bernardino as Joseph Mendivil

San Bernardino, California (June 3, 2020) – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has identified the driver who died Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash in San Bernardino as Joseph Mendivil, 37, of San Bernardino.

Authorities said Mendivil was driving a Honda Accord at about 2:15 a.m. June 1, when he ran a red light at the intersection of Lynwood Drive and Mountain Avenue. The Accord was then broadside by a Chevy Tahoe, driven by Toniyo Atkinson, 42, of San Bernardino.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced Mendivil dead at the scene.

Authorities determined that Atkinson was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. He was eventually arrested and transported to West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of DUI.

His bail was set at $100,000.

The crash remains under investigation.

Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, Mr. Arin Khodaverdian believes that car accident claims are rarely straightforward regardless of the circumstances involved. “Liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim and it is crucial, therefore, to have an experienced attorney on your side,” He said.

Mr. Khodaverdian has worked for many years as a wrongful death and personal injury attorney. He and his team of attorneys has helped thousands of injury victims and their families recover over $100 million in compensation. “In one case, we recovered a 7-figure settlement within 11 business days of being hired by the family of a victim who was killed by a negligent driver.”

Swift action by an experienced attorney helps preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and begin to pursue those responsible for the incident.
