Jose Estrada Suffers Major Injuries in Fatal Norwalk Car Accident on San Gabriel River (605) Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue

Norwalk, California (February 6, 2020) – A Pico Rivera man was seriously injured early Wednesday morning in a deadly crash in Norwalk, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred at around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 5 in the southbound lane of San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, just south of Rosecrans Avenue.

Authorities said Alyssa Alexus Contreras, 24, of La Puente, was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on the San Gabriel River Freeway when, for undetermined reasons, she allowed the vehicle to drift across the traffic lanes and crashed into the center divider before it came to a rest in the traffic lanes.

The Toyota was then struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Honda Accord. As a result of the collision, the Toyota flipped over and was hit by a Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Contreras died in the accident.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, Jonathan J. Villalpando, 28, of Fontana, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Jose O. Estrada, 42, of Pico Rivera, who was the driver of the Honda Accord, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the PT Cruiser, Milton Max Marquardt, 46, of Ontario, was unhurt.

A SigAlert was issued at about 4:05 a.m., blocking all lanes of the southbound 605 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue. All lanes were reopened at about 8:30 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
