John Rubio Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Highway 74 in Perris

John Rubio Identified as Man Killed in Perris Pedestrian Accident on Highway 74 near River Road

Perris, California (December 15, 2019) – The Riverside County coroner’s office has identified the woman who died after being hit by two vehicles Friday evening while he ran across Highway 74 in Perris as John Rubio, 33, of Perris.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal crash took at around 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 13 on Highway 74, just west of River Road in an unincorporated area between Perris and Lake Elsinore.

A witness told the authorities that a man had just got off an RTA bus and ran to the center divider. The pedestrian waved his hands to get vehicles to see him and then attempted to run across to the other side. As he tried to cross the eastbound lanes, he was hit by a Dodge Caravan that was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour.

Moments later, another eastbound vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, also struck Rubio as he was getting up.

Rubio died at the scene.

The two female drivers, both of Lake Elsinore, remained at the scene. No arrests were made.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately available.

The accident remains under investigation.
