John Hughes Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident on Highway 120 in Oakdale

Authorities Identify Man Killed in Oakdale Pedestrian Accident on Highway 120 as John Hughes

Oakdale, California (February 11, 2020) – Authorities have identified the man who was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday evening in Oakdale.

John Hughes, 61, of Newman, died in the accident that occurred at around 6:45 p.m. Monday, February 10 on Highway 120.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, Hughes was hit by a northbound Chevrolet pickup while he was walking north on the side of the highway.

Hughes was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Matthew Keith, 28, fled the scene after the accident. At about 9:30 p.m., he called the CHP officers.

Keith was later arrested on suspicion DUI and hit-and-run.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
