Ivania Torres ID’d as Woman Killed in San Mateo Pedestrian Accident on U.S. Highway 101 near Third Avenue

San Mateo, California (January 19, 2020) – The San Mateo County coroner’s office has identified the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 101 in San Mateo as Ivania Torres, 50, of South San Francisco.

The fatal pedestrian accident happened at around 1:44 a.m. Sunday, January 19 on southbound Highway 101, just south of Third Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said a white Dodge Charger was traveling on southbound Highway 101 when for an unknown reason, it rear-ended a white Toyota Yaris.

Torres, who was riding as a passenger in the Yaris, got out of the car and walked eastbound across traffic lanes to talk to the driver of the Dodge. She was then struck by a black Toyota Camry that was also traveling southbound.

Torres was declared dead at the scene. Another occupant of the Yaris and one person in the Camry complained of pain and were transported to Stanford Hospital.

Meanwhile, both the Charger and the Camry drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI. Their names have not been disclosed.

All southbound lanes of Highway 101 were closed following the crash. As of 5:30 a.m., all lanes reopened to traffic.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash is urged to call authorities at (650) 369-6261.
