Fresno, California (April 25, 2020) – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night in Fresno as Isaac Romero, 27, of Fresno.

The accident happened at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the area of Shields Avenue and Maroa Avenue.

As per the report, Romero was hit by a vehicle while she was jaywalking across Shields Avenue.

Romero was taken to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Fresno Coroner’s Office stated that Romero self-identified as transgender.

The driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene and was cooperative, police said. Intoxication was not considered a factor in the accident.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
