Holly Rood Killed in San Jacinto Pedestrian Accident on De Anza Drive

Coroner Identify Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle on De Anza Drive near Main Street in San Jacinto as Holly Rood

San Jacinto, California (May 7, 2020) – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking across a street early Wednesday morning in San Jacinto as Holly Rood, 25.

The fatal pedestrian accident took place at about 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, on De Anza Drive, just west of Main Street.

Authorities said Rood was crossing De Anza Drive when, for unknown reasons, she was hit by a Hyundai Elantra that was traveling southbound on De Anza Drive.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Rood lying down in the street. She was declared deceased at the crash site at about 4:44 a.m.

The driver involved stopped at the scene and was cooperative, authorities said.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
