Heitor Carreiro Hit, Killed by Vehicle on Coalinga Avenue in Richmond

Boy Killed in Richmond Pedestrian Accident on Coalinga Avenue Identified as Heitor Carreiro

Richmond, California (February 13, 2020) – The boy who died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Friday evening in Richmond has been identified as Heitor Carreiro, 4.

Authorities said an SUV hit Carreiro while he was standing with his father, who was unloading groceries near their home at around 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 7 in the 2200 block of Coalinga Avenue.

Carreiro was airlifted to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital with major injuries. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the SUV, Terrell O. Richardson, 26, did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. He later turned himself at the Richmond Police Department.

Richardson is facing several felony charges.

The accident remains under investigation.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
