Gilberto Avila Identified as Victim of Fatal Whitewater Pedestrian Accident on 10 Freeway near Whitewater Road

Whitewater, California (March 13, 2020) – A pedestrian accident claimed the life of a man Thursday afternoon in Whitewater, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Gilberto Avila, 40, of Yucca Valley, was standing near a tow-truck that had responded to a single-vehicle crash when, for unknown reasons, he was hit by a Chrysler Sebring at about 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12.

Avila was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. Sadly, he was later declared dead at the hospital.

Oliver and his passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.

According to the authorities, the Sebring was “traveling at an unsafe speed” for the road and weather conditions.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
