Off-Duty Corrections Officer Killed in Lancaster Motorcycle Accident at Avenue J and Central Way
Lancaster, California (January 3, 2020) – A 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a motorcycle accident on Tuesday morning in Lancaster, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Avenue J and Central Way at about 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31.
Authorities said Lonny Quintana of Lancaster was heading eastbound in a 2012 Honda CRV on Avenue J when he made a left turn onto northbound Valley Central Way in front of a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle traveling westbound on Avenue J approaching the junction.
Quintana then made a left turn and slammed into the motorbike. It was not immediately known who of the two motorists had the green light on at the time.
Officials are also yet to determine if the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Firefighters along with medical personnel rushed the motorcyclist, identified as a 45-year-old corrections officer, to Antelope Valley Hospital where he later died.
The officer was reportedly heading to work at the Lancaster State Prison at the time of the collision.
An investigation is underway. Witnesses are urging any witnesses to contact traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
